Dr. Wasay is currently the Alicharan Endowed Professor of Neurology at Aga Khan University. He is Past President of the Pakistan Society of Neurology and Pakistan Stroke Society, President of the Neurology Awareness and Research Foundation, Trustee and Chair of the Specialty Groups Committee of the World Federation of Neurology (WFN), Secretary of the Environmental Neurology Specialty Group of WFN, a member of the Global Policy Committee of the World Stroke Organization (WSO), Editor of the Pakistan Journal of Neurological Sciences, Chief Editor of Jahan e Aasab (a neurology public-awareness magazine), Chair of the Seed Grants Research Committee at Aga Khan University, and Co-chair of the NCD Think Tank.
Dr. Wasay has received several national and international awards for educational, research, and advocacy activities, including the Teachers Recognition Award from the American Academy of Neurology, the Distinguished Teacher Award from the Pakistan Society of Neurology, the Outstanding Teacher Award from Aga Khan University, the Gold Medal for Research from the Pakistan Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Advocacy Leader of the Year Award from the American Academy of Neurology. He serves as Fellow and Secretary, Sind Chapter, for the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, and has also been elected as a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the Islamic World Academy of Sciences (IAS). He was recently awarded the Kenneth Viste Award for Neurology Advocacy by the American Academy of Neurology, along with the Hajra Billoo Gold Medal and Research Excellence Award by the Health Research Advisory Board.
He has trained 54 neurologists as a CPSP supervisor and two neurologists from Afghanistan through programs funded by the AAN and FMIC. He has received 30 grants from national and international agencies as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator. His publication bibliography includes 262 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals, with a combined impact factor of more than 675 and more than 7,845 citations. He has been an invited speaker and presenter at more than 102 international conferences, with more than 118 presentations and lectures, and he actively reviews research grants and scientific papers for more than 25 journals and granting agencies. He has long-standing collaboration with ZQSI in stroke-related research, training, and advocacy.
